After a few years away from my blog, I’ve decided to bring it back to life and use it again to share updates on my current projects and adventures.
This year, together with a great group of friends, I helped organize another edition of the FreedomBytes Conference in Pavia — a community event focused on free software, open technology, and digital freedom.
I also had the chance to deliver two talks:
“Haiku OS – A Quick Overview” (file) and “System Destroyed – Lessons from a Brick.”
The Haiku OS session was pure fun: showing the latest progress of the project and running it on a real, old HP Netbook triggered reactions like:
“Wow, it’s running on real hardware! We expected some kind of virtual demo!”
The second talk, System Destroyed, took a more serious tone — raising awareness about how certain corporations design devices and software to control users rather than empower them. It explored how attempts to regain control of your system can sometimes turn into a disaster when surveillance-driven design meets user freedom.
It was an intense and rewarding experience — great people, great talks, and plenty of inspiration for what’s coming next. More to come soon!
